It isn't PMS, and if you say it is I'll kill you.

While I was in the throes of a particularly charming episode of PMS, my husband accused me of running a personality bait-and-switch scam.

"What, exactly, are you trying to say?" I inquired, in the carefully measured staccato speech of a woman subtly threatening to commit murder.

"I mean that when we were dating, you barely had PMS or cramps or any of that garbage. Now you're practically a different person one week of every month!" He finally noticed the look on my face. "A scary person."

-- Have any of you ladies out there heard something similar at your house lately? Fellas, wondering why your mate's moods are getting wilder by the month? I get to the bottom of my husband's near-fatal case of insensitivity on In The Powder Room - read the rest of the story to find out what the hell his problem is, and figure out whether or not you know someone suffering from the same condition, on Diagnosis: Manopause.

  3. I went through menopause a long time ago & I'm perfectly normal & (somewhat) sane. My husband is 81--could he STILL be going through the change?

  4. Absolutely! As with puberty, many men take decades to adapt to hormonal changes before they start to act like regular human beings again.
