The Sunshine Award? What? For ME?

Here I've been, just puttering around on my old computer, feeling happy to have an outlet for my rants and my issues and my weird thoughts, and feeling grateful for the wonderful community of bloggers who've been kind enough to teach me things and welcome me into the Blogoverse, when BAM!  Out of the blue something extra-nice happens, like Nika at Just Another Tired Mommy nominating me for the Sunshine Award!

This is my very first blogging award; I still can't believe that anyone actually reads my blog (okay, besides my mom), let alone enjoys it and ON TOP OF THAT wants to pass along some Award Love.  Nika, I really appreciate it!

I also got tagged by Jenny at Sippy Cup Chronicles (thanks for thinking of me, Jenny)!  Since there's really only so much you people want to know about me, I'm rolling it all in together with this Major Award or else you'll be sitting here reading about my favorite color of nail polish and how many bodies are buried in my crawlspace all day.  Nobody wants that.

Of course my first question upon getting all this attention was, What's the catch?   And I found out what the catch was right away - there are rules!  Yes, rules.  Plus there's some work involved (Making lists - what?  I can't just wear a tiara while I lounge on the couch in my PJs?)  but I'm going to assume Nika passed the award along in the spirit of Blogger Camaraderie and Mutual Respect, and not as some sadistic trick to make me think of answers to 10 questions and contribute to my typing-induced carpal tunnel issues.  RIGHT?  So here are the rules:
  1. Include the award's logo in a post or on your blog (done!)
  2. Answer ten questions about yourself
  3. Nominate ten to twelve other fabulous bloggers (um, I'll do my best - see below)
  4. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blogs, letting them know that they have been nominated
  5. Share the love and link the person who nominated you (done!)
Now for the Arduous Labor of talking about myself and revealing my deep, dark secrets (you all know how I hate that - I work very hard to remain secretive and aloof).  The assigned topics are as follows:

1. What's your favorite color?

When I was a kid I used to say my favorite color was "clear," either because I'm suuuuper clever, or a smart aleck, or just a nerd.  Probably the latter.  Now my fave is probably black (in clothes), because nursing mommas can't wear a lot of light colors on top because light colors show off wet milk circles, despite my attempts to keep people from looking at my leaks by displaying other distracting elements, such as visible bra straps and a muffin top.  Plus, I don't know if you heard, but in 2012 black is the new black.

2. What's your favorite animal?

This guy (only because he's lower maintenance than our real cat):

3.  Favorite non-alcoholic drink

They come in non-alcoholic varieties?  Oh wait, you must mean booze that tastes like  there's no booze in it, like strawberry daiquiris.  No?  You mean drinks with no  alcohol?  Hmm, I guess I'd have to say my coffee, before I Irish it up.

4.  Favorite number

12.  I won a cake-walk on #12 at a school open-house when I was in second grade or something, and it's pretty much the only thing I've ever won until this Sunshine Award, aside from the Boston Chicken College Scholarship, but that was just embarrassing, especially when they announced it as I crossed the stage to get my high school diploma and everybody laughed (by the way, I'm still gonna get all you guys for that).

5.  Facebook or Twitter?  By default I'll say The Twitter, since I just started twitting last week and I'm not on Facebook at all (I KNOW, WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME,  RIGHT?).

6.  My passion.  My family.  Writing.  Usually in that order.

7.  Prefer getting or giving presents?  I suck at both, because I feel all awkward when I get a present and I can never keep the secret when I give one, so I usually ruin it either way.  But if I have to choose, I'd prefer to ruin giving a gift.

7.  Favorite pattern?  What does this even mean?   I'm going to say paisley.  Or stripes.  NOT plaid.  Anything but plaid.  I hate plaid (sorry Scotland).

8.  Favorite day of the week

All of them, really.  Weekdays I have more time to write, and I get to take long walks with my mom which is fun because I often have to stop and cross my legs so I don't pee while I'm laughing.  Saturdays and Sundays are best, though, because I loooove having Gerry home (and I'm not just saying that because he reads this blog).  It's fun to have all the kids and parents smooshed together in our little house, tripping over each other and getting on each others' nerves.  It's good times.

9.  Favorite flower

I'm missing my Betty Crocker Gene, the one that most women have that tells them how to cook, apply makeup, and like flowers.  Don't get me wrong, I like flowers fine - I think they're lovely, in the ground.  Colorful, and all that stuff.  I detest them as gifts, though - it's like saying, "Here, I got you these pretty things that someone yanked out of the dirt.  Have fun taking care of them for the next several days while they litter your countertop with petals and leaf detritus, until finally one day you detect a rotting stench and discover it's coming from this vase, at which point you'll pull them out of the brackish water and cram them into the trash can, probably dripping Mystery Plant Juice all over your kitchen floor."  At least that's what I  hear.

__________________________________________________________________________

And now that you sat through all that, here's the part where I pass it on.  I'm going to totally cheat, though, because there's no way I could choose between all the bloggers I'm getting to know in real life.  How do I figure out who's already answered all these questions?  Who'll be offended if they get left out?  Who'll be irritated if I don't  leave them out?  So I'm going to pass it along to a few people we'd all enjoy hearing from, and who don't have any idea who I am so they're unlikely to get irate or leave me nasty comments.  Hooray!

Ree at The Pioneer Woman
Because I don't think we know her favorite color yet.  Ree, if you've already gotten the Sunshine Award, you can answer these questions from the point of view of Walter The Wonder Dog.

Martha Stewart at The Martha Blog
Because Martha knows the Sunshine Award is a Good Thing (TM).

Kate Gosselin at The Coupon Cabin
Because if anyone knows how to get deals on bulk kids' underwear, it's Kate.

Gwyneth Paltrow at goop
My house is brimming with gluten and my kids watch TV for more hours each day than they sleep, but nevertheless I think ol' Gwyn would like me if she got to know me.

Mayim Bialik (can I call you Blossom?)  at Mayim Bialik
Because I practice attachment parenting, too - but in my case it's against my will.

I know, I've already been given so much, but I'd still appreciate your click below before
Martha Stewart's team of lawyers shuts me down!
