Years ago, my husband and I used to leave each other love notes in our Hollow Tree. Now we're happily married, with five kids; this blog is where I share the usually ridiculous, often sarcastic, sometimes aggravating, and occasionally even touching tales of our ventures into parenthood. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

March Photo Challenge #6: 5PM

I'm behind again.  Or still.  Whatever, I give up.

5 PM at our house is usually pretty calmish.  The kids are home from school, Maddie is between naps, and Gerry has usually just come home from work.  At this time of day his goal and mine are unified - all we both want is for him to be holding the baby.  They have their bonding time, and I get my arms back - everybody's happy.  Until 5:15, that is, at which point we have to figure out what's for dinner, and Jake won't get out of Zoe's room, and somebody speared seven pencils into the wall, and the cat threw up again, and my "empty" arms are full of laundry, and Gerry has to go figure out why Zoe's arms are taped together, and I start eyeballing the bottle of wine.

I know I'm posting this photo two days late - but at almost 5 PM on the nose, which I didn't even plan, and I think the eeriness of that coincidence alone deserves some kind of recognition, like maybe in the form of a click below!

  1. This reminds me so much of my family when my son was a baby! So long ago and brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!

Life can be fast and crazy!

  2. Isn't that the truth? The time passes before you know it (though WHILE you're untangling kite string from the ceiling fan, it tends to feel like it's dragging on a bit). :)
